Harvest Offering

Many thanks to everyone who gave to the Harvest Offering.  We were able to donate £4713.38 to Tearfund’s Refugee Crisis Fund.

Tearfund were most grateful and highlighted some of the ways our donation will be put to good use:

‘Your gift will be used to fund vital work across Europe as well as the Middle East….thanks to the rapid response of supporters like you, we are able to fund European partners, who are demonstrating their faith, and showing God’s love to refugees across Europe.  They are providing urgent food, medical assistance, water and hygiene items, and focusing on helping those most in need of assistance.

We are also continuing to help the millions of refugees who have fled their homes to escape the fighting, but who are still living in makeshift camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Syria.  Tearfund and our partners are providing food, help with shelter, sanitation facilities, trauma counselling and medical support.’

For more information on the Refugee Crisis, please see the Tearfund website.

Church Lunch

Sunday 20th September

Join us after the Morning Service and Church Meeting, for a church family lunch.

This is a great opportunity to relax together as a church family, get to know each other better, and enjoy some tasty food!

We’re planning a bring and share Ploughman’s Lunch – so please bring ingredients you’d like to see in a Ploughman’s. Bread. Ham. Cheese. Pickle. Pickles. Salad. Apple. Anything else?

Back To School

We are blessed at Bessels Green Baptist Church to have an abundance of children, young people, teachers, youth workers and others who work within the education system.

Whilst they have all been enjoying a well-earned rest and change of scene, thoughts will shortly be turning to the new school year starting in the next couple of weeks.

For all, this involves new beginnings – whether it be a new school, a new class, new names to learn, new colleagues to work along side.  It can be a time of excitement, a time of apprehension (for parents and children!), a time to reconnect with old friends, a time to make new friends.  Whatever the feelings are though, we have a God who will look after us and protect us.

So in the next couple of months, please pray for all those going ‘Back to School’, they’d very much appreciate it.  If you need a little help and inspiration, here are some prayers that we found on the internet:

Riding Lights presents ‘Baked Alaska’

‘Baked Alaska – Time to Change the Temperature’

by Paul Burbridge and Jonathan Bidgood.

Wednesday 30th September 2015

at Walthamstow Hall, Sevenoaks.

An island in the South Pacific has a problem. It’s hollow.
Anxiety levels are rising in a North American boardroom. Eve’s garden is bursting with next door’s rubbish. Even the ducks have relocated… they’re in Bangladesh.

From the four corners of the earth come colourful, inter-connecting stories of humanity living with the wild, unpredictable effects of climate change.

Scientists, farmers, oil magnates, climate warriors, prophets, mothers, journalists and others just like you and me – we’re all in the mix and hungry for a recipe of hope. In the struggle over power, some sound the warming bell, some blow hot and cold, while others make a pudding of the planet.

Vivid, sharp and deliciously entertaining, BAKED ALASKA serves up the realities of climate change with flair and clarity about the temperatures involved.

In the high-energy, ‘seriously funny’ style for which Riding Lights is well known, BAKED ALASKA is something we can all look forward to… unless we do something about it.

Extra-ordinary theatre for these extraordinary times.

Tickets are limited so do not delay to book.  Please call the Riding Lights box office on 01904 613000.
