LMC Bake Sale

On Sunday 10th May, LMC were busy at work in the church kitchen during the morning service.  The result – an amazing array of delicious cakes and biscuits that they ‘sold’ to the congregation in return for donations.

They managed to raise the brilliant sum of £135, which has been donated to the Meninadanca.  This Brazilian charity works with at-risk girls in communities along the BR-116, Brazil’s ‘exploitation highway’, bringing hope and changing lives through the power of dance.  For more information, please see their website.

Well done LMC!

‘Dying Matters’ Training Event

8pm, Tuesday 19th May 2015

Dying Matters Flier

“Being there for someone at the end of life”

We all find conversations about death and dying difficult – and the prospect of visiting someone nearing the end of their life daunting. Some of us may find ourselves caring for someone through a terminal illness.

As part of ‘Dying Matters* Awareness Week 2015’ we are hosting a free training session to help people feel more confident about offering practical, emotional and spiritual support to someone nearing the end of their life and/or their families.

The evening will take the form of a facilitated discussion with panelists who have professional experience in palliative care. Speakers include:

  • Rev Dr Andrew Goodhead, Spiritual Care LEad, St Christopher’s Hospice
  • Louise Chatham, Carer Support Coordinator, Hospice in the Weald
  • Dr Anjali Melethil, GP, Amherst Medical Practice
  • Jonathan Hall, Acting Senior Chaplain at Burrswood Christian Hospital, Kent

Anyone with an interest in learning more about care at the end of life is welcome to attend, whether that be from a pastoral visiting perspective, or for personal interest. We welcome anyone from any local church to join us, and those from the wider community too.

For further information, please click here to download a copy of the flier.

To book a place at this event, please complete the form below.

*Dying Matters – www.dyingmatters.org – is a coalition led by the National Council for Palliative Care seeking to positively change attitudes and behaviour around talking about and planning for death.

Nepal Earthquake

Urgent Appeal

A major earthquake hit Nepal last weekend, causing devastation as far away as Northern India. 3,600 people are already confirmed dead. The death toll is set to rise, with many bodies still trapped under the rubble.

Many organisations are currently helping people in the affected areas, dealing with the most urgent needs, such as emergency shelters, food and safe water. The next few days are critical in the race to save lives.

This Sunday morning, we will hold a collection for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal that has been set up by Tearfund.  For further details about the work that Tearfund are doing, or to make an online donation, please see their website.

Your prayers for those affected, and all those seeking to help them, are also appreciated.
