TE DEUM by John Featherstone- 24th June

The première performance of a brand new choral work, an exciting new Franco-British project on the text of the Te Deum, a beautiful and powerful ancient hymn combining praise of God with recognition of our human frailty.  Composed for two choirs and a vocal quartet juxtaposing classical, jazz and gospel modes, featuring the award-winning Bath Camerata, two outstanding jazz-gospel vocal quartets, piano, percussion, double-bass and sax. Once a teacher at Sevenoaks School, John now lives and works in Paris: one of the vocal groups will be bringing a French touch to the evening. Come and experience a unique concert of seamlessly connected musical diversity.

The long-term aim is to take this modern setting of the text to cultural venues, rather than churches, in France and possibly also occasionally the UK, venues in which a straight ‘evangelistic’ concert would never be programmed, reaching a different audience with a text that speaks to our time across the centuries. Please encourage them by coming along! If you don’t like classical music, there’s gospel and jazz, if you don’t like any of them do consider supporting the event anyway – it will be a unique experience.

Don’t worry, all sections of the text WILL be sung in English at some point in each song! Tickets will be available nearer the time from the Stag, from St Nick’s and also directly at BGBC. Price is £15, £12 concessions.
