“a safe space to share the joys and struggles of parenting a child on the autism spectrum”
This parent-led group was formed in March 2018 to provide a safe space for parents to share the joys and struggles of parenting a child on the autism spectrum and as a complement to other local groups (such as the ASD support group run by MIND).
We run a morning session on the second Tuesday of the month (with toys available for little ones) and an evening session on the 4th Tuesday and offer a mixture of informal get togethers and speakers.
Topics have included managing anger, managing anxiety, a session on sensory processing difficulties led by the Occupational Therapists, parenting techniques, visits from autism specialist teachers, visits from IASK, We Are Beams, Kent Autistic Trust and Carers First. We have a closed Facebook group for mutual support and information and currently have over 75 members.
